What's in it for them? (GB)
by SyntaxError1974 inif the wbts is just another business?
then what do the gb get out of all this?.
tim cook (ceo apple) makes around 378 million a year.. donald trump makes around 60 million a year.. i understand the wbts may have vast property holdings, stocks, bonds, and revenue from donations.. but i can't grasp the incentive for the gb to make this stuff up.

Annual meeting assumptions 2.0
by Separation of Powers inthere have been many speculations regarding the upcoming annual meeting.
among them, that the society will rid themselves of 1914 and the literal interpretation of 144,000. several have commented on why this doesn't make sense or is unnecessary, and i agree with their positions.
there is no reason to get rid of 1914...it is a tie that binds the modern to the past.

Oubiliette,
Actually I have read the article. My comment states that I don't believe they will get rid of 1914. maybe it wasn't that clear.

There have been many speculations regarding the upcoming Annual Meeting. Among them, that the Society will rid themselves of 1914 and the literal interpretation of 144,000. The organization cannot be "unique" without at least some vestige of "miraculous interpretation ability." As for the 144,000, no worries there, the organization has discounted 2,000 years of Christian history with this "wheat and weeds" explanation. "Oversown" vs. "overgrown"....(I hope you all caught that in the article).
Here are two of my assumptions, please add your own:
1) The Jehu and Jehonadab classes (1 Kings 10:15)
The organization loves its history, particularly its "worship" of JF Rutherford, considered at Bethel to be the most prolific and blessed (contrary to what you might have heard of Freddy). One of the highlights of Rutherford theology, the Jehu and Jehonadab connection. The relationship was based on an oath, "Is your heart upright with me, just as my own heart is with your heart?" Another translation interprets this "are you a faithful friend to me?" This concept of faithfulness to the Jehu class, the FDS, will be promoted to its ultimate outcome, a type of loyalty oath to the current administration.
2) The 144,000 have been selected ONLY from the modern day organization (with maybe a couple thousand exceptions).
The current administration, like none before it, is extremely egocentric, as demonstrated in the new FDS articles. Based on the wheat and weeds parable, there is NO way to know who were true Christians after first century. In fact, the argument might be made that from the death of Paul to the death of John, the man of lawlessness and the apostasy had all but obliterated the Christian congregation. So, I would expect this point to be emphasized to further solidify the "unique" nature of the Society's administration.

Thanks Blondie, as always, great job!
This article has to be one of the single worst explanations I have ever read! There are SOOOO many holes that I feel like I've been walking on a big wheel of swiss cheese.
The 1914 to 1919 thing...where does that come from? At least, with the old understanding, one could fathom that the 3 1/2 years from the beginning of Jesus' ministry to the end may correspond to late 1914 to early 1918. But 4 1/2 years? where does that come from? Is it drawn from some mystical exponential and logarithmic equation only know by the current GB, oh excuse me, the FDS. Or maybe it is the atomic weight of some unknown element missing from the Periodic Table that will be announced at the upcoming Annual Meeting.
Then there is the rapture thing....absolutely no one in the audience dared to touch that. The conductor's own understanding of Scripture and even the Society's doctrine is so shallow that he just went through the motions. Maybe 8-10 people actually commented and they simply parroted what was in the article. Rapture? What rapture?
I think the most disturbing thing about all of it was the constant regurgitated, "We used to believe." comment. Really? "used" to believe?
If faith is the assured expectation (belief) of things hoped for and those "things" can be so readily changed by people in power, then what is your faith based on....THAT expectation CAN NOT BE ASSURED!
Utter nonsense!
Can't wait to see what happens next....it's like a train wreck.

Are JWs more negative than normal people?
by Julia Orwell incompare a typical conversation with a jw to one with a random non-jw:.

Separation of Powers
Most definitely YES!
In reading your conversation, I must say that I have had several similar conversations. There is one person, an elder in my hall, that no matter the subject matter is always saying how hard this system is. When he prays for the congregation, he goes on and on about how bad things are and how much we struggle in this system of things. It gets so bad sometimes that by the time the meeting starts people are sighing and groaning....

Were organ transplants ever forbidden?
by stillstuckcruz inas an apostate, i'm currently compiling a list of changed doctrines and "new light" changes over the years.
this is mainly for discussing with witnesses in the future.
i feel if i don't present full truth of their own doctrine, they will knock me down and rightfully say that i did not give full infomation(hypocrites much?).

Separation of Powers
The Watchtower of November 15 1967 is replete with double speak and typical organization jargon. It is the quintessential example of the authoritarian evolution of the organization. Expressions such as "Christians who have been enlightened by God’s Word..." and "...putting their confidence in the future that he has in store for those who love him." are manipulative. Rest assured that the elders were apprised of which "decisions" were considered worthy of disfellowshipping and which were simply "personal".
Below is my breakdown of the positions.
Transplant from Human: NOTconscience (disfellowshipping offense at the time, essentially as the taking of blood) - "However, in allowing man to eat animal flesh Jehovah God did not grant permission for humans to try to perpetuate their lives by cannibalistically..."
Transplant from animal (i.e. pig or baboon heart or valve): Conscience- "Nor can we decide whether a Christian should accept some animal part as a transplant; that is for personal decision..."
Donating blood or organs after death: Conscience with repurcussions, probably no talk at the hall and the family left to fend for themselves in finding a brother that would give the outline talk for the deceased- "Would they use his organs in cannibalistic medical experiments?"

question on resurrection

Separation of Powers
It really doesn't matter what the JW's teach nor what your mother believes. Ultimately, it is in the hands of God (if you believe in one). I have always loved how the organization feels like it can speak for God (if there is one). Case in point, the FDS articles where they state that God (if he exists) will be happy to appoint them over all his belongings. Yeah, that's right, they know exactly what God (if you choose to call him that) will do.
I will go out on a limb....if there is a God, and God's judgment day comes, the Watchtower organization will NOT make it out unscathed!

Separation of Powers
Destruction of Churches?
I have heard that for decades. Will it happen? Probably. Not because God pushes it through, but because new generations are drawing away from the spiritual and leaning more toward the scientific and secular. Should we be worried? Well, no more than when the Renaissance impacted society. Did society go ballistic? No, in fact, according to history, it was a period of unparalleld growth both from a scientific and societal perspective.
This talk, and I have heard it before, is a wish list. It is the Sears Christmas Catalog. It is an advancement of the ideology that "we are right" and "you are wrong." Interestingly, though, the belief is that "ALL" religion will be destroyed by the political structure. If that is the case, then what difference will there be in the eyes of a mormon when he sees that JW's are gone as well?
